Course info
There is a growing awareness that both eating and physical activity behaviours are linked in many ways to health. In particular, the escalating epidemic in obesity is linked critically to these two behaviours. The Department of Health recently established National Service Frameworks to address diabetes, coronary heart disease, mental health, cancer and the health of older people. These frameworks will guide public health policy for the foreseeable future and it is significant that both eating and physical activity habits impact critically on the aetiology, prevention and treatment of these diseases and also within older persons. We have little doubt that the fields of physical activity and nutrition will become increasingly inter-related in the future as efforts are made to reduce the burden of lifestyle-related disease. This MSc degree programme provides a multiple focus for preventing and treating disease in public health settings. We have shown that a considerable demand exists for multi-skilled professionals and researchers with specific expertise in both nutrition and physical activity. The programme will equip you with these skills, as well as providing a unique multi-disciplinary insight into energy balance, metabolism and related diseases. It is specifically designed for dietitians, physical activity specialists, and other health professionals such as nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists who wish to advance themselves in the important area of lifestyle-related disease treatment and prevention.
