Course info
All courses are MEng degrees. The first 2 yrs have a core of basic engineering. In yrs 3 & 4 students specialise in their chosen area, taking core & optional modules, with a group design exercise & research project. It is possible to take engineering with French or German, involving some study abroad. Students may also elect to do an industrial placement (making the course 5 yrs). Innovation & Engineering Design covers all aspects of design from concept to manufacture or marketing. It explores engineering science and its application in product, processes and systems creation.

Assessment method
The Department operates a semester system with examinations following each module. The majority of subjects are assessed through examinations, although practical and design-related subjects are continually assessed. The communication aspects of the course are an important element of the degree, and the student will complete a series of projects and seminar presentations. Language modules (if taken as part of the course) are generally assessed by a combination of examination and coursework.
